Clay court play

5 Artificial Clay Courts

All our courts are now Artificial Clay.

Artificial Clay is a superior surface to the Macadam courts we used to have, and traditionally used by most clubs in the UK. In recent years there has been a shift by top clubs that recognise that Artificial Clay is now the best surface in the British climate. It provides greater flexibility for play in wet and frosty conditions as well as dry warm weather. Injury risk is also reduced by the softer surface with less impact on leg joints.

For coaching this it is also one of the best surfaces for training. Many pro players as juniors have moved to Spain to train on Clay. The surface promotes longer rallies and improved player consistency. A lot of the kids love sliding on it too, so it's great fun to play on.

LED Floodlighting on all courts

We have modern LED floodlighting on all courts. Mounted on eight metre high columns and with six lights per court, this is the ideal configuration to provide the best playing conditions, reducing glare and shadows and ensuring an even distribution of light across the playing area.

LED lighting provides a whiter light than the old Metal Halides making it easier to see the ball. The floodlighting ensures we can provide a quality program throughout the year, for coaching, match practice sessions, club sessions and private bookings for fun friendlies or box league matches.

Our environmental impact has also been reduced by replacing our floodlights with LED, with both a significantly reduced energy consumption and also reduced light spill.

Our magnificent ‘Swiss Chalet’ style clubhouse is situated above the height of the courts and provides viewing across all of the courts from the surrounding balcony. We have outdoor seating and tables where you can sit and enjoy a warm summers evening. There is also an upper balcony that provides a higher view across courts 1-4 and the picturesque Lily Hill Park.

Inside the clubhouse there is a fully licensed bar, lounge area with large screen TV plus tables and chairs to sit at and enjoy a complimentary cup of tea or coffee. Changing facilities with showers and toilets and disabled access are available. The bar is run by volunteers and will be open most weekday evenings, so you can enjoy a drink after a game of tennis, there may even be some bar snacks on offer. We have free WiFi, so if you need to catch up on some work while the kids are playing tennis or just to keep up with your social media you can connect.
